Harrison Bear
Washington DC (2025)
We had a repeat visit to Washington
DC, ten years later, and have some
observations.
Much of what we wrote for 2015 still applies.
The national galleries and museums are still free but
you need to book an entry time, You can’t just turn
up.
Things are a lot more expensive than ten years ago,
not surprising, of course, but more so.
The people are lovely. Well, the ones we encountered
were. You don’t talk politics or world affairs. They
generally ignore it all and just get on with their lives.
There are bargains to be had. Our hotel was super
and a bargain for what we got.
The staff told my owner that bookings from foreign
countries were noticeably down already, and we were
all, including me, welcomed heartily. I was tidied
often and looked after.
The weather in early May was hot and sunny. Bears
don’t like that too much, but the air conditioning
worked just fine.
There are interesting day trips available. My owner
was going to Baltimore, but didn’t, and went to
Alexandria instead. It’s quite touristy but still very
lovely on a sunny day.
We stayed in Georgetown, which is a great area to be
in, north west of the main parts of the city, but the
White House is still walking distance. There is a
strong cupcake culture and you will see long queues
outside some of the famous shops. Do try one - it’s
worth it, but not if you are a bear and icing in the
fluff is not a good look.
My owner also managed an opera. Operas and not
for bears - too much shrieky singing and noise. we
like the quiet life.
